**FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE**
Ottawa, ON – July 10, 2024 – Resolute Legal Disability Lawyers is proud to announce the winners of its second annual scholarship: Wayne Dhale Bautista and Bradley Chambers. Each recipient will receive a $2,500 scholarship to support their post-secondary education.
Wayne Dhale Bautista, a graduate of St. John Paul II Catholic Secondary School, will be attending York University’s Schulich School of Business this fall. “Winning this $2,500 scholarship means a lot to my family and I, and I am extremely honoured to be selected as a recipient,” said Bautista. “I am particularly grateful for the opportunities the scholarship provides to children of parents with disabilities. Resolute Legal’s support not only eases the financial burden of pursuing higher education but also encourages and empowers students like myself to achieve our academic and career goals.”
Bradley Chambers, who graduated from Saint John High School, plans to attend Fanshawe College in the fall. Expressing his gratitude, Chambers said, “Winning the Resolute Legal Scholarship is very exciting, as well as encouraging! It shows me that I am capable of achieving my goals and motivates me to excel in my future. I am more than thrilled to be receiving the scholarship, and I will be using it to ease the financial load of my post-secondary education, where I am pursuing a role as an avionics technician at Fanshawe College.”
The Resolute Legal Disability Lawyers Scholarship aims to support high school students pursuing post-secondary education who have a parent or guardian unable to work due to a disability. This initiative aligns with Resolute Legal’s mission to support individuals who are unable to work due to a disability through legal advocacy, informational content, and now, by assisting their children in pursuing higher education.
A disability, for the purposes of this scholarship, is defined as a condition that prevents a parent from doing regular work and requires them to be actively collecting or pursuing disability benefits, such as short or long-term disability insurance benefits, CPP Disability benefits, workers’ compensation benefits, or provincial disability benefits.
“We decided to start this scholarship because we noticed there wasn’t enough educational support for the children of parents with disabilities. There are hundreds of scholarships for disabled students, but to our knowledge, there are none for students who have a parent with a disability. We wanted to fill this gap,” said David Brannen, founder of Resolute Legal.
This scholarship represents a small but significant step towards helping the community Resolute Legal serves every day. By supporting the education of these deserving students, Resolute Legal hopes to ease the financial burden on families and empower the next generation to achieve their academic and career goals.
